Lions At Casela

Category: General |

NOTE: I’ve been having some major issues for posting this entry. Pictures won’t load through Firefox, I don’t know if this is a temporary issue, and I had to write the entry through IE7 (omg), if you’re not seeing the pics, please try loading the page through another browser, Thanks.

It’s the latest attraction in the country: getting close to lion cubs!

Beb and I decided we would go and have a look [ and also a feel :P ] and this morning… when we set off for Casela Park.. we managed to ‘attract’ a few others on board - mainly Priska (James’s buddy), James himself and Kyle.

We reached the park at around 11 o’clock.

We had made reservations to see the cubs at 12.30 but the guy at the reception told us we could go right away since there weren’t other people before us. We chose the second ‘package’ available for seeing the cubs, which involves going inside their enclosure and being able to feel them. That cost us each Rs 500 (Lions Interaction) + Rs 150 (Entrane To Casela) - quite expensive, but as I’ve been saying - I call this a once in a lifetime thing and spending the money felt justified to me.

We set off to take the ’safari bus’ - which would take us to where the lions were kept.

..and there they were! The cubs! Within our reach - personally for me, it was a G.R.E.A.T feeling! [ I’ve always admired lions since my childhood - this has to do with the fact that I have the Leo Zodiac sign ]

The next shots are us having a go at touching those ‘big cats’ - the feeling wasn’t what I expected though, their hair is much rougher than I thought, it’s like going through a door mat!

There’s a short clip I made while being with the cubs.

A beautiful view of the landscape from the park…

Next is a shot of a flower I took - I know it doesn’t look that good - nor is it anywhere near the marvels that Kyle does with his camera! But I still like it :D.

We spent some time looking at the birds next, I think it’s the birds’ mating season at the moment! We saw at least 3 different species… euh… being very busy :P
I liked the ‘Love Birds’ most among those at the park, they look so cute and their lively colours are very attractive.

A clip I made of a Love Bird that got quite interested at being filmed! I wonder if it was liking it or sort of ‘protesting’ at me!

We headed to the Children’s Corner afterwards, where we got silly. Ok.. I meant.. where I got silly mainly! But hey! It was great fun! I won’t post any of these here, may be you’ll find that on the other blogs :P.

Thanks to Kyle for the following shot, that’s Beb and myself in our ‘tractor’ (l) :P.

A group pic, or should I say, a Squad pic - courtesy of Kyle.

We didn’t forget to leave a few words in the GuestBook before leaving the park!
Did they ever receive such addresses before? :P

Cheers to every one today for making this a great day :).

zewt: not to consider, but to grab a red marker and to draw a big red fat circle around it on your world map, to remind you where you should be going next!

  18. Fadil on April 9, 2007 10:05 am

Hey those cubs look so great! For how long has Casela had them? Didn’t know about that!

They seem to be really playful! Are they not hostile at all?

  19. aline on April 9, 2007 2:15 pm

Hi LaSh.My camera is a Minolta SRT303b with a f50 mm 1:1.7,f28 mm 1:2.8 and a f135 mm 1:2.8.The extras are a Tele Coverter 2x and filters from Hoya. Now that spring is coming I’m planning to take some pictures here in Lisbon and I’ll probably publish them next month.Once many of the pictures that I have on the blog were not taken by me,that will balance. If I’m not mistaken,Maurittius were discovered by Portuguese in the year 1505.Pity they didn’t have Internet then.;)
    Have a nice week.Cheers.:)

  29. jeff on April 12, 2007 2:42 am

Portuguese? 1505? Never heard of that one lol. all i remember from evs is Maurice van nassau and england vs france beating each others with sugarcane.

and the netherlands beating the crap out of our xtinc’d (lolol) giant kentucky fried chicken or also known as dodo…

Carlos: im so jealous of you! i wish i had a macro lens. all i have is the shitty sigma 18-200 and a-not-too-bad sigma 10-20mm

  30. Carlos on April 13, 2007 10:54 pm

    Hi Lash,have a nice weekend.Cheers.;)

  31. Carlos on April 13, 2007 11:00 pm

Jeff,1505 was not a tale from the unexpected,it’s a fact. The French and the Dutch were beating the shit out of each other with plastic bags and imported coconuts in the early 1700.That was more or less two weeks before the first chicken accepted Coronel Sanders invitation for a romantic dinner.;)
Make your own macro with a +3 filter from Hoya. It’s a little magnifying glass that makes a lady bug look the size of Arnold Scharzenegger.
Wishes of a cool wwekend to you all.:)

  32. jeff on April 15, 2007 6:26 am

me never said it was a tale haha! i just said that i never heard of it! :D i probably was sleeping in class as usual i guess

Carlos : Hope you had a nice weekend dude

Carlos & Jeff : I’ll leave you two Photo geeks to your cam talk and Mauritius discovery debate :)
