My dad wants to get rid of his ‘05 Megane at all costs. Reasons put forward: the high maintenance costs, the high petrol consumption and the various electrical components breaking down every now and then. On a personal note, I actually really like the Megane, she’s quite ‘powerful’ for her small 1.4L engine. I do drive her everyday [which might in some way explain the high fuel consumption *hrem* (a)].
BUT! Anyway, the Megane’s going soon, which meaaaannnnnnnnnnsssssss…. SHE HAS TO BE REPLACED [See my huge smile? (A)].
My dad wants to go Japanese this time, we’ve been into French and German cars for quite some years now; the latest Jap car we had was a ermmmmmmm Mitsubishi Lancer in ‘97. I LOVED that car, I learnt to drive in it :)…. ok.. ‘drive’.. got some nice… and.. not-so-nice memories left from her. See below :P.
My dad brought home some car brochures the other day of a some Jap cars, see below [ignore my flowery bed cover :P], and asked me to choose one ‘good’ car among these, he’s actually looking for a normal family sedan within the range of 1.3L to 1.6L engine.
Contender #1: Nissun Sunny
My Verdict: Didn’t even bother opening the brochure. This car is the 2002 model, and we’ve nearly reached 2007 and they are STILL proposing the same model? I mean W.T.F? :S :S. —> (N).
Contender #2: Toyota Corolla
My Verdict: Same crap as the Sunny, this is the same on going model of the past 4-5 years + I don’t want to look like am driving a Taxi, 90% of taxi drivers here use Toyota Corolla’s. —> (N).
Contender #3: Toyota Yaris
My Verdict: A new model proposed over here since October, but the car feels ’small’; it’s actually the smaller version of the Yaris/Vitz they’ve stretched a bit to look like a sedan. Not good enough. —> (N).
Contender #4: Honda City
My Verdict: A great car, specs wise with the new transmission system available at the wheel. I ALMOST fell for it, but the design completely SUCKS! :S. I wonder how Honda City users managed to actually like the car o.O. It’s the same crap as the Yaris, it’s only a small car that’s been given a boot to look like a sedan. It’s narrow. It stands too high up from the ground. Finally it’s got an ‘ass’ that’s nearly reaching the sky. Duh. —> (N) (N) (N)
So yea, if anyone is still reading, I ended up choosing none of these cars. They are simply not good enough to be bothered about. I had to get to work then, to find a GOOD Jap car, nice looking and within the engine range. There’s not much of a choice left. That’s what I came up with –>
Contender #5: Mitsubishi Lancer
My Verdict: Nice car, nice engine, nice specs. BUT! Its looks are too soft looking 
almost girly dare I say :P. + it’s an old ongoing model too :S running for the 4th year now. I know it’s the same car as yours Angele, but tsk tsk - it ain’t getting any preference from me

Contender #6: Mazda 3
My Verdict: Now THAT’S what am talking about! This car is TOTALLY what am looking for, it’s got a 1.6L engine, the most powerful among all the cars that fall within the range. It’s got killer looks, nice shapes. Great options for the interior and on the exterior. I’ve fallen for this one completely (a). Let’s go ZOOM ZOOM BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y).
However, I’ve got a lil problem to overcome, the ‘old’ Lancer is more than Rs 200,000 cheaper than the great Mazda 3 which is fairly new; been on our roads for around a year. This is gonna be a tough one trying to get the Mazda but it’s worth the try! :D.

The yaris is a ncie car, i like it, i want that car, or the 107 city bug one - its SO SO SO cute or the ford ka. The mazda 3 aint that bad but but theres the mazda 6 now

I drove my mom’s new Mazda 3 a fair bit when I went to Mauritius recently. It’s a nice car to drive. It’s comfortable, the steering is nice. The 1.6L model isn’t especially zippy, but you’ll be fine merging with traffic or pulling out of an intersection. The engine sound is pretty throaty. I like the interior. The suspension feels a bit harsh for Mauritian roads (i.e. pot holes and dings everywhere). The car feels a little light at high speed on the motorway, especially since the road isn’t as flat as it could be. The gearstick is a shade fiddly. But these are small complaints. Overall I like it a lot. I say go for it!

Thanks for dropping by. I haven’t test drived the Mazda 3 yet, may be in the coming week or so. Your comments about the car are very much appreciated, at least I get to know from a Mazda user how the car feels like ;).
